Delbert W. Lussenden, age 80, of Owen, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Family and friends are welcome from 9:30 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
Del was born on October 22, 1939, the son of Leon and Violet (Hatfield) Lussenden in Stanley, WI. Del worked on the family farm in Gilman, WI and on neighboring farms. He enlisted in the US Navy at a young age and was stationed in California, Rhode Island and Washington State, where he met Delores “Dee” Sixberry and was united in marriage on July 3, 1970. Del was transferred to Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois where he retired after 20 years in service. Del owned his own refrigeration business in Zion, IL for many years and then moved to Withee and owned Del’s Surge of Owen for over 30 years.
Del enjoyed working with farmers and always was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the many trips he and Dee were on. Del cherished his family and after entering the Clark County Rehab and Living Center he became close to the staff and made many new friends.
Del is survived by two children: Matthew (Robin) Sixberry of Owen and Diane Benrud of Owen and a brother: Dale Lussenden of Thorp, three grandchildren: Matthew Kaczmarek of Thorp, Michael Kaczmarek of Ogema and Courtney Frohling of Wausau; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Gavin, Morgan, Ayden and Piper. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Dee, brothers: David and Gerald, sisters: Sylvia Willette, Sonya Root and Beverly Ortiz, son-in-law: Curt Benrud and brother and sisters-in law.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
