Kristel S. Bartnik., age 68, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan.  Father Tim Oudenhoven will officiate.  Interment to follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Kristel was born on May 20, 1951, the daughter of Owen and Iverne (Johnson) Simmons in Charles City, Iowa.  She graduated from high school and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.  Kristel was united in marriage to Eugene Bartnik on July 12, 1975 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby.  Together they farmed for 35 years near Jerkwater.  Besides farming, she worked as a data transcriptionist operator for the railroad.

Kristel liked to crochet, do word search puzzles, loved shopping and was a collector of many things.  She also was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, liked classic rock music and had a large collection of dvds.  Most importantly, she cherished her family.

Kristel is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gene; three children: Lisa (James) Warnke of Clintonville, Denise (Kevin) Bunkelman of Colby and Robert (Monica) Bartnik of Stetsonville; six grandchildren: Sienna and Connor Warnke, Blake Bunkelman, Jonathon, William and Elizabeth Bartnik.  She is further survived by her brother, Robert (Sue) Simmons; her sister, Mary Schmalen and brother-in-law, James Meyer all of Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patricia Meyer.
